Yesterday I saw this double rainbow as I was driving home from tending to a dog. The two ends of one side of the rainbow land on @carefirstah. I sat there in awe as my eyes filled with tears. It is true… there is a rainbow bridge that all of the pets cross at the end of their lives. How symbolic and how beautiful?! I am eternally grateful for all of the love and care my pets have received from the incredible Doctors and staff at all of the Care First facilities. Thank you for all y’all do! 🌈💜🐶😺

Teach me how to doggy! (See what I did there?! 😉) This morning while Nala was getting groomed, Dolly and I took advantage of the rainy day with some one on one time to work on socialization and training at a few local pet stores. Dolly absolutely loves snuggles more than anything in this world (well, other than Nala). And together we have started the process of getting her certified as a therapy dog so we will be able to spread her joy and love to those who need it most. Hello, I’m Angel! I started working with aMANda's Best Friend at the beginning of 2023 and am the manager for our new Greensboro location. I have been loving taking care and playing with furry friends along the way. I’m originally from Puerto Rico, but moved to Wisconsin several years ago for a change of scenery and now reside in Greensboro, NC. I love going on nature walks, exploring new sides of town, trying new things to eat, video games and visiting the beach! It was through my love of video games, specifically Pokemon, that my connection to animals grew. Earth Day!!! We are so fortunate for every day we spend on the green side of the grass. I’ve been using the beautiful weather this week to acclimate the big dogs to spending the night in a tent. To my surprise they settled right in and are the happiest little campers! It is such an important step to properly socialize your dogs to new adventures in safe and controlled environments before just throwing them and yourself into the wild. This will help a dog owner address undesired behavior to ensure the safety of oneself and one’s pets once you head out in nature. 🐶🐶💜🏕️

PSA: wear hats and sunscreen! The first two pics are 14 years apart. In the top picture I was working in politics and was always in an office. The bottom picture was this year after 12 years of walking dogs. The only other differences are the dogs and the color of my hair. I have never dyed my hair. After 12 years of being outside, the sun has naturally lightened my hair. But with that beautiful strawberry blonde hair (that I have donated 42 inches of) also has come a lot of UV exposure to my scalp (and I have THICK hair). Being as fair as I am and due to the fact that my dad is a skin cancer survivor, I religiously go to the dermatologist every 6-12 months. Four weeks ago I found a spot on my head that I don’t ever remember being there. I called the dermatologist the next day and they had me come in the following. They immediately biopsied it and four days later called to say it was basal cell carcinoma. This Thursday a dermatological surgeon performed a MOHs surgery to extract the tumor. Thankfully they got it all on the first extraction and the surgeon did an incredible job. It was deeper than they thought and the pain and swelling has been pretty intense. But the cancer is gone and I’m on the up and up! I have had the most incredible support from my friends and family. And cannot thank @katiebrinkleyy and @leah.and.the.pups enough for holding the fort down with work the past couple weeks. The waiting game is a weird head space to live in. So with all that being said… wear hats, sunscreen, and get your skin checked, especially if you notice a change! Big shout out to Dr Challgren @southern_derm for his precision and compassion, and my lifelong friend Dr @tildenhagan for being there!

Yesterday I met with @revolutionmillapts, our first @kaneresidential property in Greensboro where we act as the preferred pet care providers. It’s a super dog friendly community in a historical part of town. First ABF Raleigh event of the year in the books! Usually rainy days aren’t our favorite, but it was the perfect weather in invite our friends at Park Central to stop by for some cocoa, cookies, and pup cups!

It’s been an exciting and fun-filled week in Amanda-land! We have started to get settled into our Greensboro office!!! Bummer on damaged and delayed furniture arrivals, but things are really starting to come together. We have a similar set up to our office in Raleigh; a cozy little space in a beautiful historic home in the heart of town. Huge shoutout to @triadsfinest for opening their doors to us! If you need a realtor in Greensboro they are the best. In addition to getting our physical location set up, we have also started interviews with new team members. I feel so blessed to have had such a huge response from an incredible pool of applicants! (We had over 200 applications submitted. 😳) I am so proud of the entire ABF team for helping us get to this point. Greensboro families, we can’t wait to meet y’all! Santa brought Nala & Dolly these snuffle mats for Christmas and they are a huge hit! A snuffle mat stimulates a dog’s sense of smell; sniffing is how dogs take in and get to know the outside world. Snuffle mats encourage natural foraging instincts and helps mimic hunting for food in the wild. This enrichment activity can be used for snacks/treats or for entire meals to slow down consumption.

First… huge kudos to @katiebrinkleyy and @leah.and.the.pups for holding down the fort while I was away for a few weeks! They did an incredible job and I’m looking so forward to continuing to grow aMANda’S BEST FRIEND with their help in managing the Raleigh branch, as I grow the Greensboro location, followed by Wilmington. I’ve been struggling to try to find the words to capture the emotions from this weekend’s @bandtogether_nc event. This was my 15th year volunteering with Band Together, my second as board president and I couldn’t be more proud of the impact this organization has on the Raleigh community. Since it’s start in 2001, Band Together has infiltrated our nonprofit partners with over $10M, this year adding another $1M. We have two staff people, the rest of this do-gooder machine is driven by young professionals who give their time, talent, and treasure to throw one of the most anticipated parties in town to celebrate the annual fundraising efforts. As I roll off of the leadership team, I am filled with gratitude for my years with this organization. It has become one of the biggest parts of my life and has provided me with some of my best friends, mentors, and leadership development opportunities. Thank you Band Together for all that you are and all that I get from giving through you. I encourage everyone to get involved in a local nonprofit… I promise you’ll get so much more out of it than you ever expected. 💙💛❤️

This officially kicks off that we will be opening a branch of aMANda’S BEST FRIEND in Greensboro, NC at the start of 2023! Home safely after 50 of the most draining, but rewarding hours I’ve had in a long time. The @awlshelter was doing a great job handling animal intake, along with other rescues from across Florida coming to get the animals giving them a better chance to be re-homed in other areas. But they really needed help getting donations over to the @humanesociety distribution center to get supplies into the hands of the people who lost everything in hopes they won’t have to surrender their animals in the next two weeks. So we shuffled over 25,000 lbs of food and supplies around Port Charlotte and Englewood all day yesterday. In addition to pet products, the humane society also provided free veterinary care, blankets, towels, cleaning supplies, water, human/pet food, etc to the people who came by. We helped serve 337 cars of people picking up needed items and giving them lists of other resource centers in the area. Ten days after the storm and so many people still have no power, no water, and have seen hide nor hair of FEMA. We were about 30 miles from Fort Myers, but the damage and destruction was totally devastating (see story for images). These people have lost absolutely everything, and it is beyond heartbreaking. If you can do something to support the people of Florida, please do so. We will continue to collect items over the next couple of weeks and will coordinate getting another load down there. 💜🌎🐶😺

You came into our life at a time when Nala and I needed some extra love and laughter; and you go above and beyond to fill that role. We are so lucky to have you as part of our little family! We had so much fun with our friends at @skyhouseraleigh! Our newest @kaneresidential property where we act as the Preferred Pet Care Provider. We love working with the Kane team, their residents, and all of the pets that live in these beautiful communities. 💜🐶😺

This week has been full of exciting meetings! Really looking forward to partnering with @sally_said_so to provide new training resources to our team members, customers, and ALL the furry friends! 💜🐶😺

Typing this with teary eyes and sad goodbyes… we’ll, maybe not goodbye, just see ya later! Our beloved Taylor leaves us today for a three month internship with the Nashville Zoo! She may be back, but this may also lead to a permanent position in animal husbandry. Either way, I’m going to miss the heck out of my work wife, surrogate little sister, and team manager; but I wish her nothing but the best as she continues to grow and evolve into the wonderful person she is. Taylor has been an incredible part of our team for the past 2.5 years and will be greatly missed, but I’m super excited for our other awesome team members who will be stepping up to fill her shoes! Developing these young professionals is one of my favorite unexpected parts of owning a small business, but saying goodbye is also one of the hardest. We ALL make this organization better, literally one step at a time, and I am so grateful for everything they do for me, our customers, and of course the furry friends! @taylorn_west Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! @katiebrinkleyy @leah.and.the.pups You’re up next! 💜🐶😺

We are so excited about our newest @kaneresidential property partnership with @theeastsernraleigh, a luxury apartment and condo building in @visitnorthhills. It is such an honor to act as the preferred pet care provider for these communities and their residents. Cat-urday! Tilly is one of our longest customers. Many of our team members have helped with her over the years. She is the epitome of a cat and the story of her finding (or shall I say choosing) her forever home is the sweetest! PUP-date!!! I spent all day trying to get in touch with this sweet guy’s owners. The microchip hadn’t been re-registered from his original owners who live in Missouri. Myself along with four other people, lots of shared posts, two vet hospitals, and two rescue organizations tried all day to hunt down his current owner, but to no avail. We did learn his name is Bear, but his current owners never got back in touch with me. Sooo lucky day for Bear… he hit the jackpot and has found a new forever home with a loving family who has a fenced in yard, teenage kids to play with (who have also already taken him to get a bath and to the pet store), two other doggies to snuggle and wrestle with, and a beach house to go to and boat to ride on. Happy ending; faith in humanity restored for a bit! Thank you all for your help! 🥰💜🐶
